Research Keywords

The keywords or search terms (string of keywords or phrase) that you incorporate into each website page, will determine how you are found through the search engines. You really need to know your subject and find out all the relevant search terms that people are using to find your product or service on the internet.

As an example if your main website subject was organic gardening then you could find related keyword/search terms such as: organic gardening UK, how do I go organic, growing vegetables organically, you get the general idea. The search terms that come up from your research are the terms people actually use, and many of them you would never even guess at.

Implementing these search terms into your website by making an optimized page on each one is a very successful way of increasing website traffic and page rank of your website.

How do you go about finding these search terms? Well it is very easy, you use a program called Word tracker (www.wordtracker.com ). The program does offer a free trial; do try it to get a feel for it. For your actual research you will need to either buy the program or do what most webmasters do and just rent it for the day or for the week. This is because the free trial does not offer the full program features.

Once you have access to the program, make a list of all words associated with your subject for example: organic gardening, pest control, growing vegetables, garden equipment, etc. Then, put each word into word tracker and you will generate a list of words associated with the one you have just entered. You can click on each word or term and it will add it to your basket (list). If you select all (if most of the words seem appropriate) then all the words will be added to your list.

When you have a reasonable size list of keywords/phrases, press step 3, and then Competition, Press a tick next to Google, and Yahoo and then do the competition search. You will now have a long list of keywords/phrases that have a kEI value. This means that the higher the KEI the easier it will be to get targeted traffic on your website. If you can build up a large list of 1000 targeted keywords/phrases that you know customers are searching for, and then optimize website pages with that search term, you are building a powerful website with targeted traffic.
